Goal Setting and Strategies

Goal setting is the basic foundation of our program.

Would you ever set out to drive across the country without a destination and a map? It sounds basic, but most people don't take time to sit down and plan out their strategies. Goal Setting allows you to improve performance as well as increase motivation and self-confidence. Studies have shown that an effective goal setting strategy can help eliminate anxiety, increase concentration and performance. We use three types of goals in our programs:
Outcome Goals

Outcome Goals-These goals focus on the outcome of an event, such as winning a class or a World Championship. Outcome goals can be short or long term, but they only relate to the end result.

Performance Goals Performance Goals place focus on how we execute. Have you ever gotten your outcome- like winning a class, but your performance wasn't exactly stellar? Performance goals emphasize HOW we want to perform in order to ensure that we have the best chance of reaching our outcome. Performance goals help maintain motivation because they are totally in our control to achieve. We can't always control how judges are going to view our performance, but we can control how we perform.

Process Goals Process Goals allow us to focus on specific components of our performance. It might be remembering your dressage test, nailing your set up in showmanship or staying relaxed during a flat class. These goals help us focus on areas of improvement in our riding, and as a result, our performance improves.
